EVENTO
Numerical Simulation of transformer cooling
Tipo de evento: Seminário LNCC
Several models of middle power distribution transformers use natural convection as the main cooling mechanism. The main components where heat is generated (coils, ferromagnetic core) are immersed in a cooling liquid of suitable properties. The coolant flow is driven exclusively by natural convection, avoiding the use of pumps or any moving part, and thus simplifying the construction and maintenance and providing extra safety. Outside the container, exposed to air, it is also usual that the transfer of heat to the environment takes place by natural convection. Some aspects of the modeling of this cooling process will be presented, including full 3D CFD simulations and comparison with experiments.
